Advent is a season of anticipation, preparation, and hope. It’s a time when we pause amidst the hustle and bustle to reflect on the story of Jesus and the promise of God’s coming into our world. This year, our Advent series, "O, Come Let Us Adore Him" invites us to embrace the sacred tension between what is and what could be—and to step boldly into the work of making God’s promises a reality here and now.
During the four weeks leading to Christmas, we’ll embrace the wonder of Advent with themes that resonate deeply with the heart songs of our congregation—not just favorite holiday tunes but the spiritual melodies that remind us of who we are and how God moves among us. These heart songs anchor us in hope, encouraging us to trust that God’s presence is already transforming us, even as we await the fullness of that transformation.
Guided by the Prophets
The prophets lived Advent long before it was called Advent. They were deeply aware of the brokenness around them but held onto God’s vision for what could—and would—be. They lived in the almost, embodying hope and preparation as they proclaimed God’s promise of redemption.
We, too, are called to be prophetic people. In a world that often feels weighed down by “what is,” we bear witness to what is surely coming: God’s kingdom of justice, love, and peace. Through worship and Bible study, we’ll learn from these prophetic voices, discovering how their courage and faith can inspire our own as we live as witnesses to God’s unfolding story.
A Call to Prepare
Every community needs a John the Baptist—someone who isn’t afraid to say what needs to be said, someone whose faith and presence inspire others to draw near. This season, the Gospel lessons highlight John's ministry and clear message: prepare the way for the Lord. We’ll consider what preparation looks like for us. How can we, individually and as a community, create space for God’s presence in our lives, our relationships, and our world?
Joy and Prayer in the Tension
Advent is a time of joy, but it’s also a season where we acknowledge the burdens and challenges we carry. Corporate prayer will be a central part of this series as we bring all of who we are—our hopes, worries, and longings—into worship. Rejoicing in God’s presence doesn’t mean ignoring the hard things; it means trusting that God meets us in our pain and walks with us toward healing and wholeness.
Embrace the Wonder of Advent Through Worship
Advent reminds us that God invites us to participate in making the “almost” a reality. Through grace, we are called to be co-creators with God, working to bring light, love, and justice into our homes, neighborhoods, and communities. This holy work is vital, and it starts with each of us—rooted in hope, guided by prayer, and empowered by the Spirit.
As we embark on this journey together, we’ll gather in worship and study to reflect, prepare, and celebrate the promise of Emmanuel—God with us. Let’s lean into the almost of Advent, trusting that God is at work in us and through us, making all things new.
We can’t wait to walk this sacred path with you.
